Simple guide for pairing canaries based on feather type!

Many new breeders are confused about the feather types. We know that you need experience to understand the plummage and a lot of reading. Here you can find a table about the types of feather. It is important to refer for the new breeders that there two types with different words. For example, yellow, hard and the rest of the column means the same and it is the opposite of the other column.

A yellow feather (we are reffering to the type, not to the colour of feather) has three diffferent level, it can be soft, medium or hard. The buff feather has also three levels (soft , medium, hard).

Breeders have the rule that you are pairing one bird with yellow feather with one bird with buff feather. You have to avoid to pair yellow with yellow or buff with buff. This is the half truth. You can read the following table with the normal pairings. You only need experience to recognize the type of the feather. Be patient.
